The trace network is accessed through a combination of services to support trace network workflows. Several service types are used in addition to extending the feature service to support the trace network. These extension services are enabled on the map service by the capabilities that the service will support.
A trace network is accessed through services using a combination of capabilities:
- Trace Network service—Provides capabilities to work with traces, trace configurations, and validate the network topology
- Network Diagram service—Provides the capability to create, store, edit, and maintain network diagrams
- Feature service—Provides the capability to apply operations such as edits and queries on trace network features
- Version Management service—Exposes capabilities to manage versions with feature services to work with branch versioned datasets

These include ensuring that the data is accessed using the database and portal trace network owner accounts and that the ArcGIS Enterprise member accounts are licensed using the ArcGIS Trace Network user type extension. There are also some differences in the behavior of trace network services, whether consumed in ArcGIS Pro or as a web map.
